Jay-Z Says He’s Willing To Share His Wealth
While Jay-Z has always been matter-of-fact about his money-making prowess (“Put me anywhere on God’s green earth, I triple my worth”) he hasn’t been half as open about his altruistic side. Perhaps the hip-hop icon is mellowing thanks to maturity (and his reported half billion dollar bank account); whatever the reason, the man born Shawn Carter is now one of the strongest celebrity voices for social change.
In a recent interview with CNN Money, Jay was asked about his feelings on his friend President Obama’s battle with the Republican Congress to raise taxes on the rich to help extend the payroll tax cut for American workers.“I wouldn’t mind paying more taxes if it went to the things that really mattered. If it went to education, to people in poverty, if it went to the right things, I wouldn’t mind,” he responded.
When asked about Occupy Wall Street (the movement he controversially and indirectly supported with a line of t-shirts from his Rocawear brand) he replied, “It’s a good thing that young people are getting out and getting their voices heard. Especially in this time of social media where the argument on the block or that thing that would take place in a small neighborhood is now being viewed globally. You get to recognized the power of your voice.”

The SoJones Beef: T.I. vs 50 Cent
It all started when T.I. covered the Dec/Jan 2012 issue of VIBE magazine, and the rapper shared his thoughts on many controversial issues including defending Tiny who most people think should have taken the charge for his recent incarceration. (Read about another SoJones Beef.)
In the interview, among other eyebrow-rising opinions regarding homophobes and the death of Bin Laden, T.I. defended his wife as many people thought it was really Tiny’s fault that he got busted again and broke parole a while ago. The case led him into going under jail time for another 11 months after being just released from a previous 11 months in prison. And we quote:
“I’ma tell you, 50 Cent and anybody else, we not gonn’a have no discussion about what my ole lady should’a, would’a, couda done for anything as it pertains to me,” begins his rant. “We ain’t gonn’a do that. I’m the only one in my family that’s gonna take a lick when it pertains to the legal system. Since me, none of my other family members have seen a jail cell. Nobody. I’m the last one. The buck stops here. I feel that a person that stands behind [his woman for a criminal charge] is a coward anyway.”
VIBE: I doubt she would have gotten any time.
T.I.: She wasn’t gonna catch it period, ’cause I’m there. That wasn’t even a consideration. Even if she asked me to I would’ve been like, “Nah, you trippin’. “
VIBE: So you didn’t feel you were more valuable to your family, employees and business partners on the street?
T.I.: That’s a discussion between me and another man. Not with the mother of my children. Not with the nurturer of my household.
Now get this.
Back in 2010, 50 Cent tweeted that Tiny should’ve said the drugs found in T.I.’s car were hers. And now, apparently 50 Cent is not too pleased to be mentioned in the interview and he unleashed the following tweets:
Uh oh. Superstar beef alert.
Don’t you just LOVE the drama?
